Last month our friends at Dan's Camera City turned us on to the Lakota Wolf Preserve, located in Columbia, New Jersey, on the southeastern rim of the Delaware Water Gap. It's easy enough to look at these images, visit their website or 'Like' their FB page to be reminded that wolves are pretty cool... but until you've actually walked among them, met their gaze from inches away, felt your own spirit stir in response to their soulful howl ringing on the air around you, you simply can't fully appreciate what these amazing animals truly are... a connection to something eternal dwelling deep within us all... or what they will forever be... nature's noblest testament to the undeniable link between community and survival. It is especially impressive to see how much time and energy it takes to maintain and care for these wolves, to know that Jim, Becky and their small but devoted team do it all on a shoestring, yet remain delightful hosts, eager to educate visitors (while graciously fielding the silly questions photographers are bound to ask ; - ). Please visit them for yourself and help support their non-profit operation by sponsoring a wolf or donating directly to their mission.
